"Kelly Dean Group Live @ Market Street 2005"

In May of 2005, we were invited to play in The Woodlands @ Market Street. It's a really cool location. Imagine a remake of a 1940's-50's era small town, and you get the idea. The band sets up, and 1000 people materialize from nowhere with their lawn chairs. What a great night.

Doit Again/Try Creepin': Listen
Personnel (on all tracks): Me-tenor, alto, soprano sax, flute, WX7 Wind Synth; John Calderon-guitar; Keith Vivens-bass; Vernon Daniels-drums; Greg Giacona-keys

The Story: Some Steely Dan, some Macy Gray, some Stevie Wonder. Nice way to start the night, eh? The recording starts in the middle of the Do It Again melody. Tenor sax on Do It Again & I Try, soprano sax on Creepin' .

Mambo Influenciado: Listen

The Story: All those years of college, payin' off. I get to stretch out on flute, now my #2 instrument behind the tenor. Vernon's drum solo is spectacular, as he delivers a real crowd-pleaser.

Maputo: Listen

The Story: Maputo is sort of the "Stairway To Heaven" of smooth jazz, but in the capable hands of these musicians, it stills feels very fresh. My alto sax was a little dusty from sitting on the shelf for the past year, but I really enjoyed playing it on this track.

(It's Just) Talk/The Chicken: Listen

The Story: I break out the WX7 Wind Synth for the Pat Metheny tune. I'm not quite getting enough in the monitor, so there are some intonation problems with me & John (or as Randy Jackson likes to say, "It's pitchy!"). There are a few road map issues, but we manage to right the ship by the end of the piece. After that, we break out old school with a TKOh! favorite, The Chicken, to finish the set.

Our thanks to Show Business Entertainment & Donna McKenzie @ 95.7 The Wave for sponsoring this beautiful night. Also big thanks to Aaron Oliver & Sound Events for recording these tunes and running sound at the show.
